Firstly contrary to popular belief you can’t be made to do anything against your will whilst in hypnosis and can’t be ‘made’ to lose weight with absolutely no effort on behalf of the client. However hypnotherapy is so powerful it can help people to start listening to their body by re-programming their mind. So many people go on diets but fail because a part of them demands food when they’re feeling low, bored or upset. A client’s intellect may tell them that they really shouldn’t eat that cream cake but their emotions tell them otherwise, some people will be able to win the battle but many more will give in to the emotions. Quite often our habits stem back to childhood emotions, when appropriate I take the client back to these childhood experiences and examine the links between how they behaved then and how they behave now, this can be quite enlightening for many people. Many more people talk about being good or naughty when it comes to food – the very word 'naughty' sums up childhood and isn’t taken seriously – there’s often something quite endearing about being ‘naughty’. In hypnosis I find the part of the clients personality that gets satisfaction from doing the thing that it may enjoy but eventually harms them ie eating too much clotted cream or smoking too many cigarettes and re-direct that satisfaction link to a more appropriate behaviour. I also explain to the client on an emotional level what the long term consequences of their actions may result in this alone can be enough to make some clients stop. |
