The Top Ten Common Myths about Hypnotherapy

What if I don't wake up?
Will I be made to do things against my will?
Will I reveal all my secrets?

These are all common concerns from first time and more experienced clients well just relax ....... here are the top 10 most common myths being busted just for you!

Hypnosis Myth 1) Some people can't be hypnotized
The only reason you can't be hypnotized is if you are incapable of paying attention due to extremely low IQ or brain damage. That's not to say that every hypnotist can hypnotize you however. The more flexible the hypnotist, the more effective she will be with the largest number of people.
Hypnosis Myth 2) Hypnosis is something weird that other people do to you
If you couldn't go into hypnosis, you wouldn't be able to sleep, to learn, or get nervous through 'negative self hypnosis'. (You know when you imagine things going wrong and it makes you feel anxious? Well that's self hypnosis!)
Hypnosis is simply a deliberate utilization of the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) or dream state. We're not giving people medication here – if it wasn't a natural ability, hypnosis wouldn't work!
Hypnosis Myth 3) You lose control in hypnosis
Crazy news stories, stage hypnotists and gossip have created the illusion that you lose control in hypnosis. In fact, when hypnotized, you are relaxed and focused – and able to choose to get up and walk away at any time. You choose to give your attention to the hypnotist, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Hypnosis Myth 4) Hypnosis is dangerous
Wrong. You can enter a state of hypnosis simply by staring at the flames of an open fire. Or you can fall into a light trance when you’re driving in your car. Or you can experience hypnosis when you’re concentrating on something so completely that you become oblivious to everything else around you. So you’ll be happy to know that hypnosis is entirely natural and totally safe.
Hypnosis Myth 5) Hypnosis makes people do things against their will
Not true. Whether a person is hypnotized or not, no one can be made to do anything against their will. Not only that, but it’s impossible to hypnotize ANYONE unless they WANT to be hypnotized.
Hypnosis Myth 6) Hypnosis only works on weak-minded people
This is also completely false. In fact, the more intelligent the subject, the easier it is to hypnotize him or her. This is because subjects must be able to focus, use their imagination and follow instructions carefully. So the cleverer you are the better.
Hypnosis Myth 7) Hypnosis makes people tell the truth
Wrong again. Hypnosis relaxes people, putting them initially into a mild trance and allowing their subconscious minds to come to the fore. This is the seat of their imagination and creativity, so if anything it becomes even EASIER to exaggerate the truth or ‘make things up’ when under hypnosis.
Hypnosis Myth 8) Hypnosis can cause people to get stuck in a trance and never come out
A resounding NO to this one. It has never happened and it will never happen, because it is impossible. Even if the hypnotist forgot about you, left the building and flew to Hong Kong, you’d wake up sooner or later. Either you’d get bored, you’d just snap out of it or you’d fall asleep, waking up when you were ready.
Hypnosis Myth 9) Following hypnosis the subject is unable to remember anything
Wrong again. You can only be hypnotized when you’re awake, although being in a trance gives the illusion of sleep. So because you’re awake, you can remember everything that happens to you. If you participate in a stage hypnotist’s show, you might not WANT to remember everything, but you will!
Hypnosis Myth 10) The deeper I go the more effect the hypnosis will have.
Sorry wrong again. Either you're in hypnosis or you're not. It's a bit like a woman being pregant. She cant be a little pregnant she's either pregnant or she isn't it's just the length of pregnancy that varies. It's the same with hypnosis either you're in it or you're not, some people prefer to be deep as it's physicaly much more relaxing. I like my clients to feel relaxed but you don't have to be relaxed to be in hypnosis.
